Natural Cures for Kidney Stones

<<>>

There are some natural cures for kidney stones that can greatly reduce or prevent the formation of stones. However, heredity and diet are the most important factors in kidney stone development.

The most important natural cure for kidney stones is to drink plenty of fluids! Water, lemonade and most other kidney stone beverages help dilute the urine and prevent formation of stones. Some sources say to avoid grapefruit juice and carbonated soft drinks. Other sources state that the acidity of soft drinks may actually help to break down stone forming substances in the urine.

I have had some interesting results with cranberry juice and kidney stones. Cranberry juice has proved to be very helpful to me as a natural cure for kidney stones, both in passing the stone and clearing up any urinary tract infections.

The vast majority of stones formed are of the calcium-oxalate variety. Oxalates are found in foods like spinach, rhubarb, beet greens, nuts, chocolate, tea, bran, almonds, peanuts and strawberries. Although it may sound harsh, you may want to consider reducing your intake of these organic acids.

Taking 50 mg/day of vitamins B6 and 200 to 400 mg/day of magnesium may also inhibit oxalate stones from forming. Magnesium citrate is the preferred variety of magnesium. Potassium citrate is also effective in dissolving calcium oxalate kidney stones.

There are a number of free kidney stone home remedies touted on the internet. There are also many kidney stone herbal remedies. While there are many great natural cures for kidney stones that will aid in the passing and prevention of kidney stones, some "solutions" are downright odd, if not downright absurd. Caveat emptor.

All of these kidney stone treatments will be for naught if you are not hydrating yourself properly. The best natural cure for kidney stones is more water! As my urologist told me, "I've got three things that are important for you to do to prevent nephrolithiasis (kidney stone formation). Water, water, water!"

If you are not a good water drinker, get busy!

But stay away from tea! Studies have also shown a correlation between the formation of kidney stones and tea. Here is some more information about kidney stone beverages.
